Roger Waters dug deep into the Pink Floyd catalog, retrieving two songs he’d never played solo, during a warm-up show ahead of his appearance at the upcoming all-star Desert Trip concerts. Watch Waters perform “One of These Days” in the above fan-shot video, and “Fearless” in the video below.
The two cuts arrived amid a trio of shows in Mexico City, Waters’ first appearances since wrapping up a huge concert series focusing on Pink Floyd’s The Wall nearly a year ago. His revamped set list expanded to include other Floyd favorites from The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals.
Waters last played the Meddle deep cut “Fearless” during a 1971 tour with Pink Floyd. “One of These Days,” also from Meddle, had been played only one other time by any solo member of Floyd – when David Gilmour returned to the track in concert earlier this year.
The next Waters show is tonight in Mexico City; he’ll put on a free concert Saturday at the Plaza de la Constitución. Waters then joins Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and the Who at Desert Trip, to be held the weekends of Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 14-16 at the Coachella festival site in Indio, Calif.
The Stones and Dylan are featured on Friday; McCartney and Young – who is appearing with the band Promise of the Real – follow on Saturday. Desert Trip wraps up with Sunday-night performances by the Who and Waters.
